PH DOMESTIC HELPERS IN JAPAN TO RECEIVE $1,500 (P70,000) MONTHLY SALARY

Good salaries and benefits await Filipino domestic helpers who successfully apply and work in Japan.
According to GMA News, the workers will receive the minimum Japanese monthly salary of $1,500 (P70,000) and will receive other benefits which correspond to their salary grade.

Officially designated as “housekeepers,” workers are expected to make beds, do general housecleaning, and maintain gardens. They will also live outside of their employer’s home.

To able to work in Japan as a domestic helper, it is not necessary for the applicant to have any educational attainment. However, he/she must know how to read and write, understand the Japanese language, and undergo TESDA training for six months.

Those who already have work experience in other countries as domestic helpers will be preferred in the selection process.

According to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Deputy Administrator Atty. Jeriel Domingo, they cannot yet give the number of domestic helpers Japan is willing to take.

However, he added the POEA will give an announcement on the number as soon as they can lay down the system.

President Benigno Aquino III and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier forged the deal after the two met during the Asia-Pacific Ecnomic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Manila last week.

However, the two sides have yet to set the guideline and put the mechanism in place.

“We requested on the side of the Philippines that they also prepare the necessary system so that it will be smoothly implemented,” Abe’s spokesman Yasuhisa Kawamura said.

The Philippines is believed to have thousands of domestic workers in other countries; most notably in Hong Kong and nations in the Middle East.
