A warning that claims a “new killer insect” is able to spread a virus when touched is circulating on social media. The warning depicts an apparently gruesomely injured hand containing a large number of small holes throughout the palm and fingers, which we are led to believe was caused by the insect. Also included is an image of the insect with a large number of small tube-like structures on its back.
Additionally the warning claims that upon infection, the virus can circulate the “entire human system” within minutes and urges users to spread the information on to their friends, going as far as describing itself as an “SOS Alert”. The full warning can be seen below.
For those who have been alarmed or perturbed by the warning, you needn’t be, since it is completely false. In fact the entire rumor seems to be another prank aimed at people who suffer from the scientifically unofficial “pathological fear of holes” known as trypophobia. Many of our regular readers may be familiar with a previous aged hoax purporting to tell the story of breast larvae that manifested itself in a similar way to this “killer insect” tale. In both cases the supposed inflicted “injuries” appear very similar.
